John Oliver discusses food waste in the way that only he can. Parody and satire can be great tools for driving home how stupid things that we consider normal in life really are. Food waste is one of them. As John will tell you we have millions of people in this country who cannot get enough food. Yet, we through away enough to fill over 700 football stadiums. What’s wrong with this picture? A lot.

Not to mention that when you throw in the claims that we need GMOs to feed the world, you have to ask the question: Do we really?

U.S. farmers have been sold on genetically modified crops, but the world isn’t buying. What if they had the financial flexibility to grow what the world wants?  We produce just 4% of global fruit, vegetables, wheat and rice. In fact, we import 60% of our fruits and vegetables and 80% of our seafood and produce less than 8% of all global calories.

Yet we still waste 30-40% of that.
