Nike Joins Steve Jobs and Kennedy: Crazy Enough to Change the World

There are two iconic figures whose famous words have guided my work for most of my career.

The first are the words of Steve Jobs in Apple’s 1997 Think Different campaign:

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes … the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. … You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things. … They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

The second are the words of Robert Kennedy: “Some men see things as they are, and ask why. I dream of things that never were, and ask why not.”

Both sentiments are so completely captured in this new full video by Nike. Take two minutes to watch it.

Courage does not have a color, justice doesn’t either. And when one brave voice speaks out, others follow. It was U.S. Army veteran, Nate Boyer, who suggested to Kaepernick to take a knee to peacefully protest as a sign of respect.

So much of my work has been about courage, and for those who will inevitably say “Stick to food, Robyn.” I didn’t on #epigate, I haven’t on the diversity and justice needed in our food system, and I won’t here.

And for those who want to destroy their Nike gear, the Houston Police Department is asking that you please donate it instead.

Here’s to the crazy ones, the ones who say why not? The ones building a better world for all of us.
